DESCRIPTION:\nWe look forward to your attendance at our next event coming up in just a few weeks.  Our presenters are Tom Rodriguez and Brooke Brestel from the firm Vincent, Romeo & Rodriguez.  Read below for details.\n \n**************CFP, CLE, CLU, AND CPA CE CREDITS HAVE ALL BEEN APPROVED!************\n \nThanks to our Platinum sponsors, Longmont Community Foundation and Midwest Trust for making this program possible!\n \nLearning Objective:\n \nThe purpose of the presentation is to educate attorneys, advisors, and other practitioners on identifying potential elder abuse and the practical steps they may take to address and rectify these situations for their clients and families.\n \nCourse Description:\n \nElder financial abuse and fiduciary theft are on the rise and they come in many different guises.  Although the media typically covers a few of the more heinous cases of elder abuse each year, most financial abuses are committed by family members and relatively few of those crimes are ever reported to law enforcement.  When estate planners and financial advisors meet with clients and families, they will, at some point, likely encounter a scenario where abuse is already suspected or identified, or the situation raises red flags and is questionable. The proper advice and the various options available to families and clients will vary widely with the particular situation.  Through a review of the various types of abuse, and a comprehensive review of applicable Colorado statutes, this presentation will assist practitioners with identifying potential financial abuse and exploitation of an older adult, as well as the various factors to consider, and the practical steps practitioners and others may take to investigate and address possible elder abuse when presented with those situations.\n \nSpeaker Information:\n \nTom Rodriguez is a partner at Vincent, Romeo & Rodriguez, LLC, and has been an attorney since 1999. His practice emphasizes probate litigation, including contested guardianships and conservatorships, fiduciary representation, and other will and trust litigation.
